My New Writing Life

When I was freelancing, I kept a writer’s blog — creating content for it was an easy task as I was also blogging for pay at that time. You get into a groove when you are using your voice on the daily, even in that way.

Now here I am today, starting a new writer’s blog. I have a new writing focus and I most definitely have a new voice. That’s because I have a new focus. What’s my new focus you ask? Well … for one, I’m trying my hand at fiction FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Oh I’ve written a fictional chapter or two before. But each time I let the fear of failure get the best of me. And when I stood up to that fear, Imposter Syndrome took over. Those previous attempts didn’t stand a chance.

Now, for reasons that aren’t quite clear to me, this Fall I experienced a sense of urgency around my writing. I had a ‘If I don’t do this I’ll never do this and I might die with unwritten books inside of me’ feeling.

I thought, maybe I’ll participate in NaNoWriMo. So I research it. And I go all in, signing up and committing weeks in advance. I register for Writer’s Digest University’s ‘Plot Perfect Bootcamp’ — which was incredibly helpful, by the way. I subscribe to YouTube channels and Podcasts and buy books like, “Save the Cat! Writes the Novel“ and OH … did I mention my husband gave me a subscription to Scribblers? I was ALL IN.

And now I’m waking up at 5:15 am each morning and knocking out 1k - 2k words per day and I’m writing every day. I feel like I’m living my truth. I feel like I’m living as a writer, maybe for the first time. I feel it more then when I was being paid to write and I was writing for a living. I’m writing. I’m a writer. And it feels AMAZING.
